Earle executed a complex bridge replacement operation from January 2022 to November 2023, undertaking the formidable GSP Superstructure Replacement at Interchange 105. The project was commissioned for the NJ Turnpike Authority, This bustling Parkway exit, which can be especially active during summer months, demanded the complete closure of four ramps and demanding completion deadlines. Overcoming long lead times for the steel beams, Earle’s expertise shone through in safely and efficiently demolishing and replacing these substantial bridges.
The magnitude of the challenge was evident in the existing concrete beams, some weighing up to 215,000 pounds, making their removal and processing extraordinary feats. Earle’s crews conducted the largest demolition picks in Earle’s history. To expedite construction, one bridge replacement was innovatively designed as a prefabricated unit, with specialized trucks delivering beams and precast decks, which were then erected seamlessly as a single structure. This demanded exacting substructure precision, ensuring the superstructure fitted precisely on the reconstructed piers and abutments.
